Suiting the seasons: how your solar system optimises throughout the year

Once your SolarZero solar energy system is installed, our team of energy experts get to work ensuring it’s making the most of the sun while it shines. Because you’ll now be running on a natural resource, it means your energy generation, solar battery storage, and the way you purchase or sell grid energy, fluctuates with the seasons.

During Summer

With longer days and significantly more sunlight, your system naturally generates a lot more energy. This means anything excess is both stored in your battery and sold back to the grid in exchange for energy credits. These credits will appear on your power bill from Ecotricity.

During Winter

Winter is typically the most expensive period for all households, because of the fewer sunlight hours and increased use of appliances to keep your home warm and dry.  You’re likely to need to buy more energy from the grid than in other months and should expect to see a higher power bill over the colder months.

Looking at your energy use over the course of a year

Because of how your energy use and generation will fluctuate over the course of a year, we encourage our customers to look at their energy use over the full year, rather than month by month.

It’s completely normal for some months to cost more than others, similarly to when you’re relying solely on grid energy. The difference is in the incremental savings you make over time, which is why it's best to view switching to solar as a long-term commitment to lower energy costs and reduce your carbon footprint.

Plus, when you run your home on sunshine, you’re powering your home with lower energy costs without having to compromise on your home comforts.
